What is the European GPR Association?
EuroGPR is an association made up of users and manufacturers of GPR equipment, intent on raising standards within the GPR industry and looking out for the rights of our members, giving them voice at a pan-European level on matters such as licensing, health and safety and market access.
Who are our members?
Our members range from Utility detection and general geophysical Site Investigation companies, Universities and national survey institutes, individuals, and GPR manufacturing companies.
What does the European GPR Association do?
- Improve, extend and rationalise the professional standards of firms and corporations offering GPR surveys within Europe.
- Establish and maintain relations with European governments, departments, ministries, statutory undertakers and other organisations so as to create and safeguard co-operation, understanding, standards and efficiency and generally facilitate the conduct of member firms and corporations.
- Provide a medium through which members of the Association can consult with each other on all matters of interest to them and to afford a means whereby, the procedure, practice and knowledge of their profession may be coordinated and published.
- Organise, sponsor and participate in conferences, exhibitions, or missions in any part of the world.
- Provide and operate a central library for the collection of all types of information of value to the members of the Association and to print, publish, circulate and otherwise make available the same to the members of the Association and other approved organisations.
- Set standards relevant to the industry from time to time, and negotiate with the relevant authorities the use of these, at the same time encouraging their use by Association members.
- Provide a vehicle to give advice and assistance to members of the Association on any matter arising in the course of their practice.
- Provide a vehicle whereby members of the Association can liaise with universities, institutions, colleges and companies conducting courses on all matters of mutual interest or convenience,
- Liaise with manufacturers, suppliers, trade associations and other industries on matters of mutual interest.
GPR stands for Ground Penetrating (or Probing) Radar.
The technology is very similar to traditional radar but uses a longer wavelength.
A great deal of work conducted using GPR has a strong Health & Safety aspect. It is also important to local & national Government as the ultimate end users of the information generated.
- Locate underground pipes, cables & services
- Find evidence for other buried potential hazards e.g. mine shafts, voids
- Investigate concrete structures to determine the position of reinforcement &/or the quality of the concrete & whether it contains voids
- Investigate the integrity of road sub-surfaces
- Investigate environmental conditions both natural (geology) & man-made (e.g. pollutant spread)
- Study Ice sheets, glaciers, their formation & structure
- Uncover forensic evidence including buried human remains & weapons
- Locate, identify & investigate archaeological sites

EuroGPR can only recommend the equipment and services provided by its members. In order to obtain membership, candidates are expected to provide evidence of professional practices and, on admittance, to adhere to the Association’s code of conduct.
